MCi produces unique low carbon materials from CO2 emissions for use in many industrial applications and products
Product applications & materials development
All our low carbon materials are safe and have permanently locked away the CO2 used to create them. This is important because we are working with customers across a range of industries from cement, building products, industrial materials, chemicals and consumer goods to lower their products' carbon footprints.
Most of the product applications being developed using MCi's materials are commercially secret. MCi is working with various manufacturing and product companies globally, conducting joint trials and assessments on new low carbon product formulations for their products.
Through life cycle assessments we demonstrate that using our materials has the added benefit of lowering the carbon intensity of the materials they are displacing. They are designed to match the current costs of existing materials but lower or negate the carbon footprints when used in their products.
Importantly our customers as first movers using our materials can unlock a competitive advantage by offering carbon neutral or negative products to their customers sooner.
We will be announcing some of our collaborations as we progress these into commercial opportunities, offtakes and into their product markets.
MCi is enabling a range of circular economy value chain linkages. Importantly we are enabling the pathway for new sustainable products whilst reducing emissions.
Two of the industrial product applications we have announced publicly that use MCi's low carbon materials are in cement/concrete and plasterboard products.
We are working with customers and partners globally in the cement and concrete industries to validate our silicas and carbonates in new formulations that lower the carbon intensity of their products. There are several specific applications we are working on including new SCMs.
MCi is planning to be supplying millions of tonnes of low carbon materials to cement industry customers around the world to use in their products, to deliver low carbon, neutral or even negative carbon construction and infrastructure applications.
We are working with cement industry groups and standards bodies for accreditation of our materials for use in new cement and concrete formulations so they can be used safely by our customers around the world.
Carbon Negative Plasterboard
One of the building product applications MCi has announced is a carbon negative plasterboard. This is being developed with our specialist partners in this sector.
This new plasterboard has significant material benefits over gypsum based plasterboard / dry wall products. It is fire retardant, light weight and has around 50% embodied emissions by weight!
This new plasterboard product could considerably reduce the carbon intensity factor of buildings when used in interior walls, ceilings and fit-outs.
We will be announcing further developments with these product applications as they complete commercial trials and enter their commercial and marketing phases.
